We are delighted to welcome our new colleague Alicia to the LangTec-team. Alicia holds a PhD in computational linguistics and brings a strong background in Arab studies and Digital Humanities to the table. Over the past ten years she more and more gravitated towards software engineering. With her many years of applied experience in a range of different project contexts Alicia now joins our software development team in a senior role.

We are delighted to announce the start of a new project with a well-known major social network. Its multilingual ontology, which is a central element in many of their internal services, has been curated manually so far and has grown continually over the years. Now it is time for a critical analysis of the status quo of this knowledge representation and to develop suggestions for the future curation and further development of said ontology. In this LangTec assists with its expertise in ontologies, knowledge graphs, computational linguistics and language technology.

We visited the client on-site for the official project kick-off and were warmly welcomed despite some rather windy autumn weather outside.

In cooperation with the financial services company Tecis and the insurance company die Continentale, LangTec now offers its employees the opportunity to take out a company pension scheme. In addition to the tax savings resulting from the deferred compensation, LangTec adds a contribution on top, which is significantly higher than the statutory mandatory contribution, resulting in an attractive retirement provision offer! To optimise processes in customer communication, LangTec is further expanding the portal of a provider from the renewable energy sector. With expert knowledge in report generation, software development and software architecture, LangTec is developing new functions in the self-service areas of the Python-based customer portals.

Since the beginning of this year, LangTec has been supporting a football A-youth team of the Eimsbütteler Turnverband (ETV) as an official sponsor. Under their coach Daniel, a diverse group of football-loving youths has become a real team over the years, characterised equally by playfulness and fighting spirit. We are very pleased to be able to accompany and support this sporting growth.

The London-based Data Magazine listed LangTec as one of the 30 most innovative machine learning start ups and companies in Hamburg!

For the second time running LangTec receives the certification ‘Innovative by Research’ from Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Founders’ Union for the German Economy). This certification recognises enterprises that dedicate a substantial part of their business activity to research and development. Stifterverband is a registered non-profit organisation with focus on education, science and innovation.

We are happy to support a leading manufacturer and supplier of operations control systems for railway traffic. LangTec’s contribution in this project is to support with dedicated expertise in the development of scripting solutions on Linux systems and the virtualisation of central control systems.

LangTec participated in the Hessian Ministry of Economics Innovation Competition. One problem we want to tackle is to simplify the conversion of driving licenses for non-EU residents. A non-EU driving license is only valid for six months from the first arrival in Germany. After that, one must convert their driving license to a German driving license. However, the steps for one country can be different from one to another.

Therefore, we would like to propose a driving license conversion system to help facilitate this process. Our existing product, AlatUno, a multi-lingual PDF filling system, assists users in filling the necessary application form. In addition, based on the uploaded driving license, it will automatically detect the country and decide which steps are required.

We presented our solution in the final round of the Innovation Contest of the Hessian Ministry of Economics. Our competition was extremely strong and professional. Still, at the end of the day, the jury voted for us and our solution AlatUno was awarded the gold medal in this competition!
